Restaurant Law Center et al. v. City of New York et al. (QSR Ordinance)

We filed suit in New York federal court on November 21, 2017, challenging a NYC ordinance aimed at helping the Service Employees International Union (SEIU) and other labor and labor-funded groups, like Fast Food Justice, raise funds from non-unionized workers in the restaurant industry. The ordinance requires QSR employers to remit money deducted from employees’ paychecks to city-certified groups, such as workers’ advocacy groups. This ordinance is an unlawful attempt by New York City to get unions to circumvent federal law in order to collect dues in non-union establishments
